Dance Class with Eyes Closed

Art Center

Alex Cecchetti

performance / with Hanna Hedman and Shihya Peng

Two remarkable woman dancers are invited to activate the Dance Room segment of the Tamam Shud exhibition and guide viewers through choreographic experiences devised by the artist.

Here Alex Cecchetti asks spectators to test out two works that stimulate dance. One of them is made up of sculptures based on banisters whose curves, brushed against by participants with their eyes closed, transpose a simple action into a classic dance movement: the arabesque. The other is a copper surface on which arrangements of stones mark out imaginary movements. Dancers Hanna Hedman and Shihya Peng accompany visitors through this experience – this Dance Class with Eyes Closed – bringing to bear their sensitivity and finely honed artistic eye.
